"NAGARAM" Movie Review

This film is not only going to keep you awake this Sivaratri it will give u nightmares if u attempt to sleep as nothing is right in the film. Neither the title, the story or even the characters don't make sense but the filmmaker has the audacity to call the protagonist or the hero 'right'.

Srikanth and Kaveri JhaSrikanth is called 'right' as he is the right hand man of Pradeep Rawat who is the father of all goons. One fine day Mr. Right draws a sketch, in other words or filmi parlance he eliminates Pradeep Rawat's son GV and the film gets a story here onwards.

There are two more puppets in the film, puppets because they do as directed. We have already discussed Srikanth who now has an aim in life i.e., to face the music from Pradeep Rawat. The second is Ajay who trusts his friend immensely but loses his life. Surprisingly Ajay's family is not shown as grieving for him.

Even Srikanth is not seen as clenching his fists or biting his teeth, he just falls hook, line and sinker for Kaveri Jha whose ambition is to do research on street rowdies and before the theisis ends she has already rolled over him in white sand, blue waters, etc.

The lady apart from teaching the ABCDs of love gives him a brilliant idea of setting up a marriage bureau for all estranged couples. Meanwhile another puppet Jagapati Babu thankfully without a coke can this time gives a heavy 'build up' but calmly accepts a transfer letter from his chief and is out of the scene. Kalabhavan Mani is the new ACP who is constantly rubbing betel leaves on his bald head and then chews, spits and asks for a fight.

Srikanth and Kaveri JhaWe saw Mumait Khan's hoardings and tall posters in Mangatayaru Tiffin Centre. Here all Raghubabu does is to cover the semi clad Mumait's posters with saree and blouse giving her a semblance of dignity. There are other comedians as well whose job is to shriek, over act, get drunk and give you an additional headache.

Finally: The entire fights, dialogues is nothing but a farce. No scene connects with the audience and no duet gives you a deviation. There is nothing in the film that recommends viewing.

"GAMYAM" Movie Review

It would be an understatement if one were to call Allari Naresh as a potential successor to Rajendra Prasad. Naresh had proven his capability as an actor very early in his career but unfortunately not many of his films despite his weighty performances didn't click at the box office, owe this to the script or poor narration by the directors but it requires so many inputs and so many hands to make a film a success and an artiste a real 'actor'.

With not so great looks, a lean personality and drooping shoulders, this young man had completely overshadowed his physical shortcomings with a breezy, pleasant and an entertaining work in debutant Radha Krishna (Krish)'s film Gamyam as Gaali Seenu.

Plot: Sharwanand plays Abhiram who has lost his mother when he was very young and has grown amidst wealth and fair weather friends. The stinking rich Abhiram falls for a medical student Janaki (Kamalini) but after a period of courtship she realizes he is not the right guy for her. She disappears and Abhiram embarks on a journey on his bike to recover his lost love. Naresh is a petty bike thief who is simple and plain hearted, he bumps into Abhiram and they set out together to trace Janaki.

Story, screenplay and direction: Though the film basically introduces itself as a love story, it is the friendship between Abhiram and Gaali Seenu that dominates most of the time. As mentioned Naresh steals the show with his near perfect comic timing and natural expressions and all characters pale in comparison. That is perhaps one reason why Sharwanand despite playing the rich guy's role to the hilt is overshadowed by the overpowering role and dialogues given to Naresh.

All the characters are beautifully etched, they have shades of grey and they all move towards the positive as the journey progresses, for example..Kamalini is stubborn, has her priorities right but at the end of the film she believes in him, Sharwanand grows up in a different atmosphere but the beauty in his character unfolds while he takes pains to explain why he behaves like that. His father too changes and there is another very nice character in the dancer who melts your heart with her few sentences.

Kamalini Mukherjee shows no novelty in her work so there is hardly anything to talk about her except her graceful movements in a dance drama. Her holier than thou and pricey attitude is getting a little too much for the audiences.

Kamalini MukherjeeTechnical Aspects: The director has done commendable work for his first film but he has a long way to go. He has however able to deliver a pleasant story despite some out of place semi-plot stuff like the forest scenes and scribe and naxalist episodes. There is nothing great about the songs but one can't find fault with them either. The visuals come out better in the forest and Brahmanandam appears briefly but is of no help. Infact Naresh has carried the entire film on his shoulders and brought out all the emotions that one need not ask for more characters.

Finally: The goal to become a successful film looks possible as one character plays a class role, the other is outright mass. With the kind of dialogues written for Naresh, the film is sure to draw a decent collection in the coming days provided the producers push the film aggressively.
